Helldivers 2 Reaches New Heights After Xbox Launch and Major Update

Helldivers 2 is experiencing a monumental day. The game made its debut on Xbox Series X|S today, August 26, alongside a significant new update that notably includes a Halo crossover. This surge of excitement has ignited a substantial increase in both player numbers and sales for Helldivers 2. Here`s a closer look at the key elements contributing to the game`s latest triumph.

Leading the Charts on Steam

On the Steam platform, Helldivers 2 has claimed the top spot as the best-selling game by revenue in the US and secured second place in the UK. Globally, it ranks as the second most popular title, trailing only Counter-Strike 2.

In terms of concurrent players on Steam, Helldivers 2 reached a peak of over 114,000 active users today, August 26, positioning it among Steam`s top 10 most-played games. This marks the highest player count observed since June.

Across all available platforms, Helldivers 2 has reportedly amassed over 200,000 players today, according to the game`s internal data. Specific player statistics for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, however, have not been disclosed.

The Mystery of the Latest Patch

Today`s update for Helldivers 2 arrived without accompanying patch notes. This omission has led players to speculate that the developers intend for new features or changes to be discovered organically through gameplay. The absence of official notes has also become a source of community memes. Additionally, the studio has announced forthcoming content for Helldivers 2, including “Into the Unjust,” slated for release on September 2.

Xbox Debut Celebration and a Symbolic Press

Developer Arrowhead Studios commemorated the Xbox launch of Helldivers 2 with a dedicated party. During the event, the studio`s Chief Creative Officer, Johan Pilestedt, ceremoniously pressed a special Xbox button to mark the game`s release on the platform.

Helldivers 2 represents one of PlayStation`s initial ventures in releasing titles directly on Xbox. While the MLB The Show series is also available on Xbox, it is a co-publication with Major League Baseball. Coincidentally, Gears of War: Reloaded was also released on PlayStation 5 today, signifying a notable exchange of former console exclusive titles between PlayStation and Xbox.
