Arrowhead Game Studios, the developer behind Helldivers 2, recently addressed player concerns in an extensive social media post. The studio recognized various issues plaguing the game, such as performance drops, stability problems, freezes, and persistent audio bugs. While initial efforts to tackle these issues are scheduled for next month, more substantial performance improvements are expected to require a longer development cycle.
The official Helldivers 2 X (formerly Twitter) account announced that the first major update is planned for “mid-October-ish.” This patch will primarily target frequent crashing, resolve audio glitches affecting primary and sidearm weapons, and introduce minor performance enhancements. However, Arrowhead emphasized that significant performance optimizations for the third-person shooter will require over two months to implement, given the complexity of the “larger concerns” they aim to address.
Furthermore, Arrowhead committed to increasing transparency and communication regarding Helldivers 2`s future development. This initiative is set to commence next week with a dedicated post from the developer about the game.
This news follows a patch released last week that addressed cave-related crashes and some audio issues. Arrowhead also temporarily pulled the Rupture Strain subfaction enemies from play. Earlier in the month, the “Into the Unjust” update brought subterranean Terminid lairs to the game.
Helldivers 2 saw impressive concurrent player figures following its August launch. The upcoming October patch is expected to focus on the following key improvements:
- Key crash stability improvements
- Resolution for primary/sidearm weapon audio cutting out during missions
- Small-scale performance enhancements
- Overdue bug fixes, including Charger footstep sounds and persistent weapon audio interruptions
- Prevention of spawning inside caves
- A comprehensive balance pass (spearheaded by Niklas & Lennart)
