Helldivers 2 Hits Half a Million Concurrent Players, CEO Shares Humorous Remark

Helldivers 2 has recently achieved a significant milestone, exceeding half a million concurrent players. This impressive surge in popularity prompted Shams Jorjani, CEO of Arrowhead Studios, to playfully revive a well-known community joke. Jorjani reportedly told players on Discord to “stop shitting your pants” as he announced the game had reached 500,490 simultaneous users.

Earlier this year, Jorjani had made a similar comment to Helldivers 2 fans on Discord, hinting at exciting future plans for the game that would cause them to “sh*t [their] pants.” This remark quickly gained traction within the game`s subreddit and evolved into an inside joke among the player base. It appears Jorjani continues to embrace this humorous tradition.

The substantial increase in Helldivers 2`s player count is largely attributed to its recent launch on Xbox Series X|S. Notably, the game also features a crossover with Halo: ODST, though this has led to some minor crashing issues that Arrowhead is actively working to resolve.

In an interesting turn of events, PlayStation and Xbox simultaneously exchanged exclusive titles on August 26. While Helldivers 2 debuted on Xbox, Gears of War: Reloaded launched on PS5, marking the first time in nearly two decades that the iconic chainsaw guns and Locust enemies have appeared on a PlayStation console.

Looking ahead, Helldivers 2 is set to receive the “Into the Unjust” update on September 2. This update will challenge player squads to venture underground and confront new hordes of Terminid enemies. Helldivers 2 originally launched for PS5 and PC in February 2024.
