Grounded 2 Tops Original Game’s Steam Peak Concurrent Players Record Within An Hour

Though named Grounded 2, the game is already soaring to new heights on its launch day. The sequel quickly surpassed the all-time peak of concurrent players set by the original Grounded on Steam. This record was broken in less than an hour.

Xbox commentator Klobrille highlighted the impressive launch of Grounded 2 on the social platform X. According to SteamDB, this open-world survival adventure game had over 49,500 simultaneous players on Valve`s platform at the time of reporting. This figure significantly surpasses Grounded`s previous record of 32,012 concurrent players, set in 2021. It`s also worth noting that Grounded 2 is accessible via Game Pass Ultimate for Xbox Series X|S and PC Game Pass, in addition to being available for purchase at $30.

Grounded 2 was revealed less than two months prior, during the Xbox Games Showcase in June. This survival title combines thematic elements from the movie “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids” with gameplay reminiscent of the video game Rust. Obsidian Entertainment once again led the development of the sequel, with Eidos-Montreal providing additional support for the project.

A significant new addition in Grounded 2 is the introduction of buggies, essentially vehicles for traversal. While buggies were considered for the original game, the developers determined that a fresh start with a sequel was the only viable way to properly implement them.
