Sony has officially announced the launch schedule for the PlayStation 5 exclusive, Ghost of Yotei, with its global release set for October 2. This eagerly anticipated title serves as a spiritual successor to Ghost of Tsushima, offering a completely independent and standalone narrative.
Players worldwide can expect Ghost of Yotei to unlock around midnight local time on October 2 in their respective countries. This phased rollout means that specific regions in the US, for instance, will be able to commence Atsu`s revenge story on the evening of October 1. Gamers on the West Coast can begin playing at 9 PM PT that day, which corresponds to 12 AM ET on October 2 for those on the East Coast.
The storyline of Ghost of Yotei introduces Atsu, a formidable sellsword, a distinct change from Jin, the samurai protagonist of Ghost of Tsushima. Set against the backdrop of feudal Japan, this expansive open-world adventure immerses players in Atsu`s quest for vengeance following the brutal slaying of her family by a ruthless outlaw gang.
In a unique marketing move, Ghost of Yotei has already partnered with Sapporo beer, releasing special packaging that includes a QR code allowing players to unlock Sapporo`s iconic star logo within the game itself. Furthermore, developers at Sucker Punch Productions have reportedly expressed satisfaction with the recent delay of Grand Theft Auto VI, as it ensures Ghost of Yotei will avoid direct competition with that highly anticipated blockbuster during its autumn launch window.
As one of the first major PS5 releases for October, Ghost of Yotei promises a compelling single-player experience this week. However, fans eager for multiplayer action will need to wait a bit longer, as the “Legends” multiplayer mode is currently scheduled for release in 2026.
