Ghost of Yotei-Inspired Limited Edition PS5 Consoles Announced

During its recent State of Play event, Sony provided more details about the upcoming game, Ghost of Yotei. While the primary focus of the presentation was on showcasing gameplay mechanics and the narrative experience, Sony also had a special announcement for eager fans. The company has now officially unveiled the first visual details of the limited edition PlayStation 5 console bundles designed around the Ghost of Yotei theme.

Consumers will have two distinct aesthetic choices: the Ghost of Yotei Gold Limited Edition Bundle and the Ghost of Yotei Black Limited Edition Bundle. The Black variant is designated as a PlayStation Store exclusive, meaning it will only be available directly through Sony`s official online retail platform. The Gold variant, on the other hand, is planned for wider distribution across various retail channels. Both bundle options will include a PS5 console equipped with a physical disc drive, a DualSense wireless controller featuring a matching limited edition design, and a digital license for the Ghost of Yotei game, complete with any applicable preorder incentives.

The creative vision for both limited edition designs was brought to life by the development team at Sucker Punch themselves. They specifically noted that the design inspiration for the Gold bundle is rooted in kintsugi, the traditional Japanese art form focused on repairing broken ceramics with gold lacquer, thus highlighting the repair as part of the object`s history and beauty. The look and feel of the Black bundle, conversely, draws its influence from Sumi-e, the Japanese technique of ink wash painting, characterized by its use of bold black ink and expressive brushstrokes.

Jason Connell, the Creative Director at Sucker Punch, offered insight into the design process, stating that their inspiration came directly from a core element of the game: its profound emphasis on exploration. He explained that the console and controller designs incorporate several visual motifs from the game world, including hand-drawn icons similar to those protagonist Atsu uses to mark her map, a kintsugi-style pattern reminiscent of her Ghost mask, and brushstroke elements echoing her Sumi-e paintings. The imposing silhouette of Mount Yotei is centrally featured on the console`s faceplates, serving as a unifying element, while Atsu herself is prominently depicted on the DualSense controller. Connell emphasized that every single one of these elements was carefully considered and integrated into the final design across both the console and the controller.

For players who already own either a PS5 Slim or a PS5 Pro model, there is an alternative option. The Ghost of Yotei Gold Limited Edition console covers will be available for separate purchase through the PlayStation Store, allowing existing console owners to update their system`s look. Similarly, the unique designs developed for the DualSense controller will also be offered for sale individually.

Both the complete limited edition console bundles and the standalone releases of the console covers and DualSense controller designs are scheduled to launch concurrently with the release of the Ghost of Yotei game on October 2.
