Genshin Impact: PS4 Support Winding Down

miHoYo, the creators of Genshin Impact, have revealed plans to cease support for the game on PlayStation 4 this year, with a full shutdown for the platform scheduled for 2026. The company cited “hardware performance limitations” as a key factor in this decision, noting that evolving requirements for the mobile versions will also demand more powerful iOS and Android devices.

In an official blog post, the studio clarified, “Future versions of Genshin Impact will no longer support PS4 due to constraints concerning hardware capabilities and application size.” While the game will be delisted from the PlayStation Network on September 10, players who already own it will retain the ability to re-download it.

Effective February 25, 2026, in-game purchases for the PS4 version will be disabled on the PlayStation Store. Furthermore, all game updates for Genshin Impact on PS4 will cease on April 8, 2026, after which players will no longer be able to access the game on that console. miHoYo intends to begin notifying players of these upcoming changes later this year. Regarding the mobile iterations of Genshin Impact, miHoYo stated that devices must meet new, elevated specifications:

Genshin Impact: Updated Minimum and Recommended Android Requirements

  • ARMv8-A 64-bit architecture
  • Non-PowerVR GPU
  • SoC: Snapdragon 660 (Adreno 610) or Helio G88 (Snapdragon 855 or Dimensity 1000 or Kirin 980 and above recommended)
  • RAM: 4GB (6GB or more recommended)
  • Operating System: Android 10.0 and above (Android 12.0 and above recommended)

Genshin Impact: Updated Minimum and Recommended iOS Requirements

  • Supported iOS devices: iPhone 8 Plus or iPhone X, iPad mini (5th generation) or iPad Air (3rd generation) or iPad (8th generation) and later models (iPhone 12 series or iPad (9th generation) and later models recommended)
  • iPhone devices with Apple A11 or later, or iPad devices with Apple A12 or above
  • RAM: 3GB (4GB or more recommended)
  • Operating System: iOS 13.0 and above

Although discontinuing the PS4 version might result in some player loss for Genshin Impact, Sony`s recent data indicates that monthly active users on PS5 have now exceeded those on PS4. As of March 31, the combined PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 player base stood at 124 million, with an observed increase in spending across PlayStation accessories, services, and content.

Genshin Impact remains available on PC and Xbox Series X|S. miHoYo also manages other popular live-service titles such as Honkai: Star Rail and Zenless Zone Zero.
