Initial CAD (Computer-Aided Design) renders of the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 offer an early look at its potential design. While the visible changes don’t appear dramatically significant at this stage, it’s worth noting that these images might not entirely reflect the final product. Nevertheless, they provide the first detailed glimpse into what to expect from Samsung’s next foldable flagship.
Design and Specifications of the Foldable
Reports suggest that the smartphone is expected to be slightly thicker than its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Its anticipated dimensions when fully unfolded are approximately 158.4 x 143.2 x 4.5 mm, and when folded, it measures around 158.4 x 72.8 x 9 mm. The device’s thickness without accounting for the protruding camera bezel is estimated to be approximately 3.9 mm. Both the internal and external displays are expected to retain their sizes, at 8 inches and 6.5 inches respectively.
The renders do not indicate the presence of an under-display camera. Instead, the rear camera module appears to maintain a similar protrusion, estimated at 5.5 mm thick. While aspects such as speaker dimensions, the position of the SIM slot, and color options may still undergo modifications, the fundamental design outline seems to be established.
Anticipated Innovations and Enhancements
Users can look forward to several key improvements in the Galaxy Z Fold 8. The battery is rumored to receive a significant upgrade to 5,000 mAh, marking the first capacity increase since the Galaxy Z Fold 3, which featured a 4,400 mAh battery. Additionally, 45W fast charging is expected to be introduced, alongside the much-anticipated reintroduction of S Pen support. This potential increase in thickness might be a direct consequence of accommodating the S Pen, as the Fold 7 notably omitted S Pen compatibility in favor of a slimmer profile.
The camera system is also set for an upgrade, with a new 50 MP ultrawide sensor. However, the 10 MP 3x telephoto lens is expected to remain unchanged from previous models. The exact pricing for this new foldable model is currently unknown, but given the current global market conditions affecting RAM and other components, it is widely anticipated to be priced above $2000.
