Future of Yakuza Creator’s PS5 Project Uncertain as NetEase Withdraws Funding

NetEase has reportedly withdrawn its financial support from Nagoshi Studio, putting the highly anticipated game “Gang of Dragon” in jeopardy. Developed by industry veteran Toshihiro Nagoshi, renowned for his work on the Yakuza series, the project now faces an uncertain future as NetEase intends to cease its funding.

Nagoshi, a former SEGA veteran, was initially brought on by the Chinese tech giant in 2021 with the aim of establishing his own studio. However, recent strategic shifts within NetEase have led to the cessation of funding for several AAA productions. Regrettably, Nagoshi Studio appears to be the latest casualty of these significant financial cutbacks.
