Fortnite players have been eagerly anticipating the opportunity to unlock the game`s first obtainable Superman skin in four years, with Friday scheduled as the release day. However, it appears Epic Games has run into an issue, as most of the new Superman cosmetic items, including both skin styles, are currently locked for everyone, regardless of whether they own the battle pass.
Players are able to unlock the free items associated with the set, such as a loading screen, cape, and pickaxe, but everything else within the Superman collection remains inaccessible. Reports from players who have leveled up sufficiently to earn some of these items indicate they receive the usual `you just unlocked these items` notification screen upon returning to the lobby. Yet, the items requiring the battle pass, including the skin and glider, do not actually appear in their locker.
The popular FortniteBR subreddit has seen a flood of complaints regarding this problem, with the front page largely covered by posts on the topic. Despite how widespread this issue seems – I am also experiencing it myself – Epic had not publicly acknowledged the problem on their official @FortniteStatus account as of Friday, though a page exists about it in Epic`s self-service support portal. One potential reason for the initial lack of public response could be Epic`s summer break, with Friday being the final business day before employees returned. Epic has since acknowledged the problem, but has not yet offered a timeline for a resolution.
This turn of events is understandably frustrating for fans, particularly those who have waited years for a chance to acquire a new Superman skin. The previous Superman skin is permanently locked to the Chapter 2 Season 7 battle pass, which was released in 2021. Therefore, this marks the first time newer players have had the opportunity to add a Superman skin to their collection.
Beyond the problematic Superman skin, Epic also released skins for a couple of other characters from the new film in the item shop on Thursday. These included outfits for the villainous Engineer and the notable Mister Terrific, though the frequently requested Lex Luthor was not among them. These item shop cosmetics are slated to be available until July 24th.
Cosmetics are not the only element of Fortnite`s latest collaboration with DC. On Friday, Epic introduced a new Superman mythic item to both Battle Royale and Zero Build modes. This item grants one player per match the full powers of Superman, allowing them to fly around the map and use heat vision. Furthermore, Superman`s iconic Fortress of Solitude is scheduled to be added to the island location Pool following next week`s major patch.
