Forsaken 64: Sci-Fi Classic Joins Nintendo Switch Online Library

The library of the Nintendo 64 – Nintendo Classics: Mature application will expand tomorrow, as Nintendo announced that the legendary shooter Forsaken 64 will become available on the platform on September 4. As always, access to the game will be exclusively for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers, and the “Mature” version of the Nintendo 64 app will need to be downloaded to play it. Forsaken 64 marks only the fifth game to be released in this section, joining other iconic titles such as Perfect Dark and Turok: Dinosaur Hunter.

For those unfamiliar with the original, Forsaken 64 is a shooter that first launched way back in 1998 on the Nintendo 64, as well as PlayStation and PC. The game is set in the futuristic year 2113, where all life on Earth has been eradicated following a scientific experiment that unleashed a powerful shockwave across the entire planet. The N64 version is notable for its differences from the PlayStation and PC editions: in the latter two, players seek to find lost treasures, whereas in the N64 version, the protagonist attempts to thwart thieves by eliminating them.

One of the key features that distinguished Forsaken 64 from other shooters of its era was its movement system. The game offers full “six degrees of freedom” (6DoF), allowing players to move forwards and backwards, side to side, up and down, and combine all these directions.

A multiplayer mode for up to four players will also be available, mirroring the original game.

Forsaken 64 will be released for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 via the Nintendo 64 – Nintendo Classics: Mature app on September 4.
