Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Revealed for Switch 2, Hints at Three Houses Connection

Fire Emblem: Fortune`s Weave is the next installment in Nintendo`s long-running fantasy RPG series, slated for release on the Switch 2 console in 2026.

A Roman-Inspired Arena and New Protagonists

The trailer for this new turn-based tactics game showcases a setting inspired by Ancient Rome and its renowned Colosseum. A diverse cast of characters chooses to battle in the arena for their unique personal reasons. Among them is Cai, a new blue-haired protagonist, who enters the arena to save his father`s life, and Theodora, who seeks to strengthen herself to better serve her people.

Echoes of Fódlan: Sothis and Hero`s Relics Return?

Fire Emblem: Fortune`s Weave appears to be set within the same continuity as 2019`s critically acclaimed Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Towards the end of the trailer, an adult version of the familiar character Sothis emerges, reflecting on the `long years` and pondering if she has been forgotten. The trailer also features characters wielding bone-like weapons known as `Hero`s Relics,` another element prominent in Three Houses.

The Evolution of a Beloved Franchise

After decades as a niche series, Fire Emblem rose to prominence with the highly praised Fire Emblem: Awakening on the Nintendo 3DS in 2012, followed by Fire Emblem: Fates in 2015. In the Switch era, the franchise continued its expansion with the well-received Fire Emblem: Three Houses in 2019 and Fire Emblem: Engage in 2023. While Fire Emblem: Engage did not achieve the same critical heights as Three Houses, it still garnered generally favorable reviews for its refined gameplay and versatile battlefield tactics.

A Highlight of the Latest Nintendo Direct

The announcement of Fire Emblem: Fortune`s Weave concluded the latest Nintendo Direct presentation. During this event, Nintendo celebrated Mario`s 40th anniversary, unveiled remasters of Super Mario Galaxy 1+2, and confirmed a release date for Metroid Prime 4, among other significant announcements featured in the “Nintendo Direct September 2025: All The Biggest Announcements” segment.
