As of June 1, 2026, Horizon Chase and Horizon Chase Turbo will no longer be available for purchase. This announcement was made by AQUIRIS, the development studio behind the series, via its official X account. Players who already own these titles will still be able to download and play them after this date.
In contrast, Horizon Chase 2 will remain fully available across all its current platforms: iOS, PC (exclusively on the Epic Games Store), Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch.
Impact of Epic Games’ Financial Restructuring
This decision comes amid a broader crisis impacting Epic Games, the parent company of AQUIRIS. Epic recently announced the layoff of approximately 1,000 developers, affecting nearly all of its internal studios. The root of this crisis is primarily attributed to a decline in Fortnite’s user engagement and the substantial costs associated with maintaining the game. Despite various recent in-game events and collaborations, these efforts evidently failed to generate the anticipated financial benefits, prompting Epic’s CEO, Tim Sweeney, and the company to implement these dramatic cost-cutting measures.
The Horizon Chase series consists of beloved arcade racing games that have garnered a dedicated community thanks to their distinctive quality and nostalgic appeal. There is a strong hope that the series can navigate these turbulent times and continue to thrive, especially given that AQUIRIS was acquired by Epic Games only in 2023, and thus has not yet had sufficient time to fully realize its potential under the new ownership.
