Elden Ring’s Unprecedented Success: Sales, Expansions, and Future Horizons

“Elden Ring” continues to demonstrate phenomenal success for FromSoftware and Bandai Namco. It was recently announced that the “Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree” expansion has surpassed 10 million units shipped. Additionally, “Elden Ring Nightreign” has sold over 5 million units. The base game “Elden Ring” itself has reached an impressive 30 million copies sold. In 2022, it was the second best-selling game in the US, surpassed only by “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II”.

The “Elden Ring” universe is set to expand further: the “Tarnished Edition” for Nintendo Switch 2 is expected this year, bundling the original game and the “Shadow of the Erdtree” expansion. Furthermore, a live-action feature film based on the game is in development from A24 studio, directed by Alex Garland.

In other related news, Bandai Namco recently finalized a deal with Sony, where PlayStation acquired 16 million shares, securing a 2.5% ownership stake in the company.

Regarding FromSoftware, the developer of “Elden Ring,” their next game, “Duskbloods,” is an action-RPG for Switch 2, scheduled for release in 2026. It`s also possible the Japanese studio will release a second game in the same year. Given the immense success of “Elden Ring,” it`s logical to assume a sequel will eventually emerge, though nothing has been officially confirmed yet.
