This year, Destiny 2`s annual Festival of the Lost is set to deliver fresh, spooky experiences, moving beyond the long-standing tradition of clearing pumpkin-headed bosses in Lost Sectors. Bungie revealed these significant updates during a recent livestream detailing the upcoming Renegades expansion, promising new gameplay options for Guardians.
New Activities Revealed
The event will introduce two brand-new activities: a six-player PvE mode and a three-player PvP mode. The PvE offering, dubbed “Haunted Altars,” will finally see the formidable Headless Ones — monstrous entities with pumpkins for heads — break free from their confinement within Lost Sectors. For PvP enthusiasts, the “Red Rumble” activity is on the horizon. While specific gameplay mechanics for these modes were not elaborated upon, they are poised to revitalise the festival`s core loop, which has largely remained unchanged since before the Beyond Light expansion.
Loot Focus: Hocus-Focusing Returns
A welcome return for players is the “hocus-focusing” system, allowing for targeted loot acquisition. Guardians will collect Eerie Engrams from participating in Festival activities and gather Candy, the event`s exclusive currency. With these, players can choose to acquire specific Festival weapons or even seek out coveted Exotic gear, provided they have enough Candy.

Pop Culture Villain-Themed Armor
Bungie also showcased this year`s cosmetic armor ornaments, drawing inspiration from iconic pop culture villains. Following a player vote between “Slashers” and “Specters” themes, Bungie artfully combined elements from both categories into the final designs:
- Hunters can embrace the eerie elegance of a ghostly bride, subtly blended with the terrifying essence of Ghost Face from the Scream movies.
- Titans are empowered with an intimidating look inspired by the hockey-mask-wearing horror icon, Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th.
- Warlocks can transform into a creature reminiscent of the internet`s infamous slender, faceless entity, Slenderman.
Renegades Expansion and Game Updates
Beyond the Festival of the Lost announcements, the livestream also provided extensive details about the Renegades expansion, alongside planned adjustments to Destiny 2`s loot systems and Power level progression, all influenced by valuable player feedback.
