Dead Space Co-Creator Eyes Dead Space 4, Claims Potential for Significant Savings

Glen Schofield, a co-creator of the renowned Dead Space series, has revealed he possesses “quite a few ideas” for his next ventures, with a fourth installment of Dead Space prominently among them. Amidst news of EA`s impending $55 billion acquisition by an investor consortium, Schofield expressed his belief that this scenario could present a “new opportunity” to realize Dead Space 4.

Speaking to IGN, Schofield confirmed his proactive approach, stating, “I`m already making calls.”

He recounted a recent attempt to engage EA, where his proposal was met with disinterest. Schofield explained, “I went to [EA] recently and they`re like, `No, we`re not interested anymore.` I said, I can get back the leadership team. I need the models from EA Motive [who built the Dead Space remake in 2023] and I can save you 30 to 40 million dollars on the idea that I have. And, they`re like, `no.`”

It`s worth noting that Schofield was not involved in the development of Dead Space 2 or Dead Space 3. He informed VGC that he only briefly played the 2023 remake but found enjoyment in it. During his IGN interview, the developer also speculated that the 2023 remake might not have been a financial success, leading him to believe that EA could be considering offloading the franchise.

“I am more optimistic [since the news of EA`s potential sale], because somebody new could buy [the Dead Space IP],” Schofield commented. He further added that he envisions Dead Space thriving through adaptations into film and television.

A prevalent industry theory suggests that EA might divest some of its intellectual properties to help manage an estimated $20 billion debt associated with the looming sale. This acquisition is not anticipated to conclude until 2026, indicating a considerable waiting period before any significant changes might occur. The BioWare studio is also rumored to be among the assets potentially considered for sale.

Following his departure from EA, Schofield joined Activision, where he contributed to several Call of Duty titles at Sledgehammer Games. In 2019, he founded Striking Distance Studios, which subsequently released the space-horror game The Callisto Protocol in 2022. Schofield currently serves as director at Pinstripe Games.

In recent discussions, Schofield has also advocated for game developers to embrace artificial intelligence rather than fearing it. Conversely, he expressed “immense” apprehension regarding the future trajectory of the Call of Duty franchise under Microsoft`s ownership.
