Darksiders 4 Resumes Original Story 15 Years Later

When the first Darksiders game launched on consoles in 2010, it captivated players with a thrilling cliffhanger: the protagonist, War, stood poised to confront the combined forces of Heaven, Hell, and the mysterious Council. Now, after an astonishing 15-year wait, the eagerly anticipated Darksiders 4 revisits this pivotal moment in its inaugural teaser. The announcement video powerfully echoes the original Darksiders` closing scene, showing War reuniting with his fellow Horsemen of the Apocalypse: Death, Fury, and Strife.

The sequel was officially revealed today during THQ Nordic`s online preview event. The publisher confirmed that Darksiders 4 will pick up directly after the first game`s narrative, introducing a new cooperative gameplay experience that allows up to four players to ride together as the Four Horsemen.

The Darksiders series is set in a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by a relentless conflict between Heaven and Hell. Initially, War was unfairly blamed for prematurely triggering the apocalypse and was subsequently given the chance to prove his innocence by uncovering the true culprit behind the devastation.

In previous installments, Death and Fury took center stage as the leading characters in Darksiders 2 and Darksiders 3, respectively. Following them, Strife assumed the protagonist role in the 2019 spin-off title, Darksiders Genesis, which diverged from the series` signature third-person action in favor of a top-down perspective.

Darksiders 4 will mark a return to the franchise`s established third-person viewpoint. THQ Nordic promises “cinematic” action that is both “fast-paced” and “visceral,” offering players a wide array of melee and supernatural abilities to command.

While THQ Nordic has not yet announced a specific release date for Darksiders 4, it is confirmed for launch on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC platforms.
