The world of horror-comedy anthology fans of “Creepshow” can look forward to exciting new Blu-ray releases this fall. Arrow Video`s 4K restoration of “Creepshow 2” is already available for pre-order. Additionally, a unique collector`s Blu-ray box set, featuring all four seasons of Shudder`s recent anthology series, “Creepshow: Complete Series Collector`s Edition,” is set to be released on November 11.
This TV series collector`s edition is designed as an old CRT television display, housing comic book-inspired disc cases, a clever nod to the franchise`s origins. It is speculated that the miniature CRT TV might allow for changing displayed images, possibly through removable cards or even a functional channel selector, though the latter is likely wishful thinking. Each of the four seasons comes in its own case, styled after the in-universe “Creepshow” comics and Stephen King`s original graphic novel. The box set also includes a comic book based on the `Skeletons in the Closet` vignette from Season 3.

The Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray of “Creepshow 2” includes a physical comic book adaptation of an unpublished Stephen King story that was cut from the 1987 film, available only with the first printing. Its release is scheduled for September 30. For the original 1982 anthology, a 4K Steelbook edition is also available.
The Shudder Series: A Deep Dive
The “Creepshow” series debuted on Shudder in 2019 and quickly became one of the streaming service`s flagship original projects. It concluded in 2023, spanning four seasons and 25 episodes, including two specials. Each episode consists of two distinct vignettes, typically 20-25 minutes long. Although franchise creators Stephen King and George A. Romero were not directly involved in the production, some episodes are based on King`s short stories, such as `Gray Matter` (from “Night Shift”) and `Survivor Type` (from “Skeleton Crew”). King`s son, Joe Hill, also authored `Twittering from the Circus of the Dead` (from “Full Throttle”), which was adapted for the series.
The 9-disc box set boasts a total runtime of approximately 18 hours. All 23 episodes and two specials are presented in 1080p resolution with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 support. Bonus features include cast and crew interviews, behind-the-scenes footage, and photo galleries. An accompanying hardcover book, “Shudder`s Creepshow: From Script to Scream,” with a foreword by Stephen King, is also available for those interested in the production process.
The Legacy of Creepshow: Films and Spin-offs
“Creepshow” and its sequels masterfully combine horror and comedy, paying homage to classic EC Comics like “Tales from the Crypt” and “The Haunt of Fear.” The original 1982 film, directed by George Romero, is an anthology of five distinct vignettes. Stephen King made his screenwriting debut with this film, adapting two of the tales from his own short prose. King also adapted the film into a graphic novel in the same year.
The screenplay for “Creepshow 2” was penned by Romero and directed by the original film`s cinematographer, Michael Gornick. Although initially planned for five vignettes, only three made it into the movie: `Old Chief Wood’nhead,` `The Raft,` and `The Hitch-hiker,` all based on King`s short stories. A story cut from “Creepshow 2,” `Cat from Hell,` later appeared in the 1990 film “Tales from the Darkside: The Movie.” This spin-off series, “Tales from the Darkside,” was notably created by Romero in 1983, following the unexpected box office success of “Creepshow.”
Available Creepshow Movie & TV Anthologies
Beyond the highly collectible editions, the first two “Creepshow” anthologies are widely available in standard Blu-ray and DVD editions. “Creepshow 3” (2006) is generally regarded as a lesser entry by fans but remains available in various formats. Collectors might also find the “King of Horror 8-Film Collection,” which includes the first “Creepshow” film among other Stephen King adaptations.
