For many fans, Christopher Reeve`s portrayal of Superman remains the definitive one. His iconic performance across four films left an indelible mark on the superhero genre. Now, enthusiasts can revisit these cinematic classics with an exclusive 5-Film Steelbook Library Case Box Set, slated for release on September 2, exclusively through Amazon.
While pre-orders were not yet live at the time of this writing, they are expected to become available soon. Interested fans are advised to frequently check the Amazon store page, as this highly anticipated collection is likely to sell out quickly upon release.

This new release appears to be a refined version of the previously available 85th Anniversary Superman 5-Film Collection steelbook. Unlike some past editions that included numerous physical extras, this new set focuses on providing the films and their elegant steelbook cases, which should contribute to a more accessible price point.
The collection features each film in stunning 4K resolution, complemented by standard Blu-ray discs and Movies Anywhere digital copies. All five films are housed within four individual steelbook cases, presented together in a collectible tin. The films included in this comprehensive set are:
- Superman (1978)
- Superman 2
- Superman 2: The Richard Donner Cut
- Superman 3
- Superman 4: The Quest for Peace
This release marks another entry in Amazon`s growing trend of exclusive steelbook collections, following successful launches like the 007: Sean Connery 6-Film Steelbook Collection in June and the A Nightmare on Elm Street 7-Film Steelbook Collection earlier this month.
A notable aspect of this collection is the inclusion of two distinct versions of Superman 2. The existence of these two cuts stems from creative disagreements and budget concerns during the original production, leading to director Richard Donner`s replacement by Richard Lester. Decades later, Donner`s original vision was restored and released as “The Richard Donner Cut,” widely regarded by fans as the superior version, offering greater depth and narrative richness to the story.
Beyond the five films presented on 4K Blu-ray with native 4K resolution, HDR10, and advanced audio formats like Dolby Atmos, TrueHD 7.1, and Master Audio 2.0, this 10-disc collection boasts a wealth of bonus features. These supplementary materials, including documentaries, commentaries, and TV specials, are located on the 1080p Blu-ray discs accompanying each film.
For those who prefer a more straightforward option, a standard Superman 5-Film Collection is also available for approximately $75. While it omits the premium steelbook cases and collector`s tin, it still provides the same films in 4K and 1080p editions, along with all the special features.
Finding individual Christopher Reeve Superman films on 4K Blu-ray can be challenging. Currently, only the original 1978 “Superman” film is readily available on Amazon, priced attractively at $15 (down from $34).
Fans might also consider pairing this collection with the new Superman movie, which is available for pre-order. Not only is it a well-received film that honors the character`s legacy, but its steelbook edition is designed to visually complement the Reeve collection.
