Ahead of its highly anticipated November launch, Treyarch has unveiled a concise video, addressing key inquiries surrounding the multiplayer experience in the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. Developers took the opportunity to delve into the revised movement mechanics slated for the game, alongside teasing the inclusion of additional remastered maps from 2012`s beloved Black Ops 2.
New Remastered Maps Incoming
Over the years, the Call of Duty franchise has seen many of its iconic maps brought back with graphical updates. Black Ops 7 is confirmed to debut with three such remastered locations: Raid, Hijacked, and Express. However, these particular maps have previously undergone remasters in earlier Black Ops installments. This recurring selection has sparked a significant desire among the fanbase for the introduction of new, previously un-remastered maps.
When directly asked if players could anticipate fresh remasters of Black Ops 2 maps that have not yet seen a modern re-release, Treyarch`s Design Director Matt Scronce provided a straightforward and encouraging response: “Yes, you can.” This affirmation has ignited speculation, with many hoping that long-requested maps such as Yemen and Plaza will finally make their remastered debut in Black Ops 7.
Evolution of Movement Mechanics
Scronce also shed more light on the updated movement system designed for Black Ops 7`s multiplayer. He firmly reiterated that the game would purposefully steer clear of mechanics like jetpacks or wall-running. Instead, players will navigate the environments using a newly defined omnimovement system, which incorporates a distinctive wall-jump ability. This new mechanic allows for up to three consecutive wall-jumps.
“On that second and third jump, you`re going to lose a little bit of momentum,” Scronce elaborated. “We honestly want to make sure people aren`t ping-ponging around the maps.”
This design philosophy aims to deliver dynamic and engaging movement options while maintaining a balanced and strategically rich gameplay environment, preventing overly frantic or disorienting player movement.
“Carry Forward” Program Undergoes Changes
In a recent development, Activision announced significant adjustments to the previously advertised “Carry Forward” program for Black Ops 7. The program, which allowed players to transfer content, has been largely discontinued. Consequently, weapons, operator skins, and a majority of other cosmetic items acquired in Black Ops 6 will no longer be transferable to Black Ops 7. The only exceptions retaining their carry-forward status are Double XP tokens and GobbleGums.
Beta and Release Information
Eager players will have the chance to experience the game`s multiplayer firsthand next month, as Treyarch will host a beta phase for Black Ops 7.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is officially scheduled for release on November 14. It will be available across multiple platforms, including PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. Other key reveals for the game include details regarding the campaign`s endgame content, a massive round-based Zombies map, and a distinctive futuristic aesthetic influencing the multiplayer design.
