Bubsy 4D: A Surprising Comeback for the Classic Bobcat

Among the numerous animal video game mascots of the 90s, Bubsy might find its place somewhere between Aero the Acrobat and Sparkster from Rocket Knight Adventures. Now, it`s Bubsy`s turn to get a fresh start for a new decade with the game Bubsy 4D, and surprisingly, it looks quite promising.

On Bluesky, developer Fabraz showcased new gameplay mechanics, demonstrating Bubsy`s ability to switch between his hairball and regular forms, dash through obstacles, and climb and claw his way over walls and treacherous traps. The vibrant cel-shaded graphics truly pop, setting this installment apart from previous games in the franchise.

Watch the Bubsy 4D Gameplay Reveal:

The witty bobcat returns to his platforming roots following the 2019 auto-runner, Bubsy: Paws on Fire. This time, he won`t be battling the Woolies, but rather an army of sheep robots known as the BaaBots. Bubsy 4D also features a customizable wardrobe, including the classic Bubsy 3D skin.

It appears Bubsy`s speed has been significantly boosted, giving the game a feel reminiscent of Sonic Frontiers. “The team at Fabraz crafted this expressive new moveset to cater to both beginners and speedrun enthusiasts,” states the official press release. “Once you`ve mastered Bubsy’s `clawsome` new moves, showcase your skills by uploading your best level times to the online leaderboards for other players to compete against!”

While an official release date hasn`t been announced yet, you can wishlist the game on Steam, and it`s expected to be available on all major platforms. Fabraz is also the developer behind Demon Tides, an upcoming 3D platformer that saw a promising demo release earlier this year.
