Borderlands 4’s Chaotic Launch: Unpacking Opening Weekend Stats

Borderlands 4 made its grand debut last week, inviting players to delve into the treacherous planet Kairos for an abundance of loot. Gearbox Studios has since unveiled a compelling collection of statistics from the game`s opening weekend, shedding light on the surprising and often comical efforts players undertook in their quest for riches.

The data highlights an astonishing 1,530,794 items plundered from outhouses, significantly outstripping the 487,585 items found in more conventional trashcans. This peculiar trend suggests that players discovered surprisingly rich, albeit unconventional, sources of treasure. Additionally, 1,811,970 items were scavenged from boomboxes, beer coolers, and grills. Unsurprisingly, the coveted red chests remained the most lucrative, yielding a staggering 14,814,296 items during the initial weekend.

However, this relentless pursuit of wealth came at a steep cost. A remarkable 2,034,399 players met an explosive demise courtesy of barrels, while grenade fatalities soared even higher to 4,563,416. Although deaths from toxic goo were fewer at 349,734, they were undoubtedly among the most excruciating.

The game`s vehicles also faced widespread destruction, with a total of 16,220,852 obliterated. Players initiated 62,718,658 boss battles, ultimately triumphing in 55,403,323 of these encounters. Despite their successes, 16,220,852 boss battles ended in player defeat.

As a bonus, Gearbox generously shared a code for the Break Free Pack and two exclusive ECHO-4 drone skins: JS63J-JSCWJ-CFTBW-3TJ3J-WJS5R.

While Borderlands 4 largely garnered positive critical reviews, PC players on Steam have actively voiced concerns regarding performance and optimization issues. Randy Pitchford, CEO of Gearbox Studios, has addressed these criticisms by offering optimization tips and confirming that a PS5 Pro patch is actively being developed to resolve console-specific problems.

Borderlands 4 is currently available across Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Fans can anticipate a Nintendo Switch 2 port to launch on October 3.
