Following its confirmed October 3 launch on the Nintendo Switch 2, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford has shared further details regarding this particular version of Borderlands 4. In an online interaction with fans, Pitchford revealed that Gearbox is targeting a frame rate of 30 frames per second (FPS) for the game on Switch 2. However, he cautioned that more intense sequences, particularly those involving heavy combat or hosting a multiplayer game in handheld mode, might experience occasional performance dips.
Pitchford also briefly confirmed that Borderlands 4 will incorporate mouse support via the Joy-Con 2 controllers. He emphasized the team`s commitment to ensuring the Switch 2 version retains all content and supports cross-platform play, stating, “It was important to us to not cut anything and to support cross-play with other platforms.”
For those planning to purchase a physical copy of Borderlands 4 for Switch 2, Pitchford indicated that significant console storage space will be required. He suggested that the game might be sold as a `Game-Key Card,` which typically necessitates a large download. Pitchford explicitly stated, “It`s a big game. There will be a download, even for physical copies.”
Game-Key Cards essentially transform the physical Switch 2 cartridge into an authentication key, allowing the game to be downloaded directly to the console. A key benefit of this format is that these cards are not permanently linked to a specific Nintendo account, meaning they can be shared with friends or even resold.
Borderlands 4 will also be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with an earlier release date of September 12 for these platforms. As the game`s launch approaches, Gearbox continues to unveil more information about its features, including new playable characters such as the Siren named Vex, the vast number of collectibles, and the highly anticipated option to finally mute Claptrap.
