With Borderlands 4`s launch fast approaching, players have the opportunity to acquire a free weapon skin by signing up for a Gearbox Shift account.
The “Hazard Pay” weapon skin is available to all Shift account holders, including both new and existing users. To claim it, players must create an account (or log in to an existing one) and opt-in to receive digital newsletters and marketing materials.
Players will then need to link their Shift account to their chosen Borderlands 4 platform. After logging into the game with the linked Shift account, the skin should be awarded (though Gearbox advises allowing up to a week for in-game items to be received). This offer is valid until the end of the current year, December 31.
Gearbox also recommends keeping an eye out for additional Shift codes in Borderlands-related emails, which can be redeemed for further rewards.
Release and Performance Details
Borderlands 4 is set to release on September 12 and will feature cross-play functionality across different platforms, but without cross-progression. According to Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford, a day-one patch for Borderlands 4 is expected to significantly enhance the looter-shooter`s performance.
Pitchford`s statement regarding the significant performance improvement with the patch was a response to a Destructoid preview that raised concerns about the game`s performance on PC. Some of these issues were attributed to a faulty power supply unit, and the preview`s author has since confirmed that most of the graphical problems they encountered have been resolved.
Future Plans: DLC Roadmap
Gearbox has already unveiled its Borderlands 4 roadmap extending from 2025 to early 2026. This plan features new events and DLC packs in the coming months, alongside a major expansion that will introduce new zones, story missions, and an additional Vault Hunter, slated for release early next year.
