Beyond Silksong: Other Games Launching Today (September 4, 2025)

Hollow Knight: Silksong has become the indie gaming world`s equivalent of GTA 6, a colossal release that many other titles would ideally prefer to avoid. Yet, sometimes game publishers cannot alter their scheduled launch dates. This article presents a selection of other games launching today that might appeal if Silksong isn`t quite your style (or if you simply enjoy taking a contrarian stance), alongside a few anticipated titles that tactfully moved their release to steer clear of Hornet and her formidable needle.

Today`s Game Releases: September 4, 2025

Adventure of Samsara – This title stands out as a “search-action” game, often called a Metroidvania, mirroring Hollow Knight`s genre. Players control a small character armed with a sword, all rendered in visually striking pixel art.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle `The Order of the Giants` DLC – This downloadable content expands upon the `Order of Giants` narrative element previously hinted at within the main Indiana Jones and the Great Circle game.

Hell is Us – Set in a landscape devastated by war and an enigmatic catastrophe, players embark on a journey to uncover secrets about their own past. This is a third-person action game incorporating elements reminiscent of `Souls-like` titles.

NBA 2K26 – When it comes to sales impact from Silksong, 2K Games and their latest NBA iteration likely face minimal concern. The audience overlap between a major sports simulation like NBA 2K26 and an indie Metroidvania or Souls-inspired game is significantly smaller compared to, say, Adventure of Samsara or Hell is Us.

Additional games launching today include the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Star Wars: Outlaws, Everybody`s Golf Hot Shots, and the Apple Arcade exclusive NFL Retro Bowl `26.

Numerous other games adjusted their release schedules once Silksong secured the September 4th slot. Moros Protocol, a sci-fi roguelite FPS, shifted to September 18th. Similarly, Megabonk, a roguelike survival game with a PlayStation 1 aesthetic, also moved to the 18th. Baby Steps, the spiritual successor to Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy, deliberately ambled its way to a September 23rd release. Demonschool was also initially slated for September 23rd, but developer Ysbryd explained the delay by stating, “We have to remind ourselves that gaining visibility for Demonschool is our main goal. Thus, the Ysbryd team strongly believes we would not be doing our game any favors by wading into waters we can clearly see are blood red.”

Hollow Knight: Silksong has launched to overwhelmingly positive public reception. Its immense popularity led to immediate server crashes for Steam and the Nintendo eShop, and also impacted Game Pass services. The game reached a peak of 535,000 concurrent players on Steam, placing it among the top three titles alongside Counter-Strike 2 and Dota 2.
