Released in 2017, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus is deservedly considered one of the best first-person shooters of the last decade. The game captivates with its brutal combat system and an engrossing Nazi-hunting plot, where the protagonist, BJ Blazkowicz, comes face-to-face with none other than Adolf Hitler. Many players undoubtedly remember this pivotal scene, but few know that the developers initially planned to show something far more shocking in it.
Yes, you heard that right: if not for the direct intervention of Bethesda`s management, the game would have featured Hitler`s rather peculiar genitalia.
MachineGames studio director, Jerk Gustatfsson, revealed this “spicy” detail in an interview with Noclip (via IGN), discussing the game`s development process. The moment was intended to occur during a scene where Hitler is urinating into a bucket (this part of the scene remained in the game), while Blazkowicz prepares for a film audition.
Game director Jens Matthies added that he discussed this idea with a Bethesda executive producer, who strongly advised against its implementation. As a result, players only saw Hitler violently vomiting and clumsily urinating into a bucket.
Perhaps this decision was for the best, considering historical accounts. Hitler, whose role in World War II ended with a bullet to the head, reportedly had a very “unusual” reproductive organ, presumably suffering from monorchism (having only one testicle). We will omit further details, but it can be assumed that his repeated misses of the bucket in that scene might have had a real-world basis.
For those particularly interested in Hitler`s anatomical features, the Sniper Elite series is worth checking out. These games have long offered a bonus DLC mission where you can eliminate the dictator, and with a precise shot to the groin, players can indeed observe a single testicle.
Meanwhile, MachineGames released the game Indiana Jones and the Great Circle last year, and its DLC, The Order of Giants, is already available. It remains unclear when a full-fledged third Wolfenstein game will be released, although the spin-off Youngblood hinted at the return of a much older BJ Blazkowicz in future adventures.
