Battlefield 6 Portal: Enhanced Map Creation Tools Unveiled

While Battlefield 2042 introduced the foundational Portal map creation tools to the franchise, the upcoming Battlefield 6 is set to significantly elevate this experience with a thoroughly revamped and expanded toolset for its players. DICE and EA have recently released a video providing an initial look at this exciting new Portal mode and the innovative features it brings.

The redesigned Portal mode grants players unprecedented flexibility to construct, share, and enjoy their personalized maps. A key innovation is a spatial editor, powered by Godot, which empowers creators to precisely manipulate map layouts and reposition existing environmental assets as they see fit. Furthermore, Portal includes advanced custom and AI scripting capabilities, allowing players to design unique user interfaces and command non-player character (NPC) combatants directly within their custom battlefields. Any experience crafted using Portal will be readily available to the broader player community via a dedicated section.

Beyond creation, Portal also integrates game modifiers, enabling players to dramatically alter the fundamental rules of gameplay. This includes setting up mechanics like one-shot kills, restricting weapon selections, and a multitude of other customizable parameters. What`s particularly noteworthy is that player progression and experience point (XP) gain remain fully active while engaging with content in Portal mode, ensuring that time spent in custom experiences contributes to a player`s overall in-game advancement.

EA and DICE have also indicated plans for several new maps to be introduced post-launch. However, at release, nine diverse maps will be available, featuring iconic global locations such as New York, Egypt, and Gibraltar. These environments are designed with extensive destructibility, meaning many structures can be demolished to dynamically reshape the battlefield during a match, though not every building will be fully destructible.

Battlefield 6 will also feature a dedicated single-player campaign. In addition, the familiar and beloved classic Battlefield soldier classes – Assault, Medic, Support, and Recon – will make their return, each complete with their signature class-specific weapons and gadgets.

Pre-orders for Battlefield 6 are currently open. An open beta is scheduled to begin on August 7th, running in various intervals throughout the month. EA is set to release Battlefield 6 on October 10th for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC platforms.
