Even though the next Battlefield game hasn`t been officially announced yet, EA and DICE have now confirmed an open beta for Battlefield 6. Furthermore, the official Battlefield account stated that the game`s beta will offer players a choice between an `open` and a `closed` weapon system.
The developers posed the question: “Why not offer both options?” In the open beta, players will be able to select playlists where signature weapons are either tied to a specific class or are universally accessible. “More to come,” the developers added.
In earlier titles, like the widely popular Battlefield 4, weapons were class-locked. However, Battlefield 2042 introduced the ability for players of any class to choose any weapon they desired. While some of the audience didn`t appreciate this freedom, others welcomed it. It seems DICE aims to satisfy both groups of players by giving them this choice in Battlefield 6.
Each class in Battlefield 6 will feature unique weapons, and their use will provide specific benefits. For instance, DICE clarified that choosing the Recon class and using a sniper rifle will extend the breath-holding duration. However, if a player from the Assault class uses a sniper rifle, they will not receive this bonus.
DICE stated that they wish to provide players with the option to customize their loadouts regardless of class, as this could help them “meet the needs of your squad” to achieve success on the battlefield.
According to reports, the official unveiling of Battlefield 6 is set for July 31, and it is at this time that DICE may reveal further details about the open beta. Online speculation suggests the open beta could commence in August, but this remains unconfirmed. Battlefield 6 is expected to launch by March 2026 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
