Battlefield 6 Embraces Traditional Class System for Enhanced Core Gameplay

Battlefield 6 is set to reintroduce the series` iconic character class system, a move that follows the divisive changes implemented in Battlefield 2042.

At the multiplayer reveal event for Battlefield 6, developers acknowledged player feedback directly, stating: “We heard you loud and clear: You want the class system back.” They then confirmed the reinstatement of the four classic Battlefield archetypes: the Assault, Engineer, Support, and Recon classes.

Each of these classes will come with a distinct set of weapons, unique gadgets, and special traits. It`s evident that the development team has reconfigured some of the well-known tools within Battlefield 6`s updated class framework.

The Assault class will utilize flashbangs and grenade launchers to breach enemy fortifications. They can also administer an adrenaline shot for enhanced stun resistance, increased sprint speed, and other combat advantages. A notable addition is their ability to carry two primary weapons.

As expected, the Engineer class will deploy rockets and mines to target enemy vehicles and remains the sole class capable of repairing friendly armor. This iteration of the Engineer appears largely consistent with past versions, seemingly streamlined from some of the additional complexities it gained previously.

The Support class retains many of its traditional abilities, including healing, reviving teammates, and supplying ammunition to their squad. A new feature for the Support class is the ability to deploy portable cover.

The Recon class continues to be perfect for players who prefer to operate independently, focusing on stealth and precision sniper rifle headshots. However, their utility within a squad has been significantly enhanced: they can now deploy drones to spot enemies and use a laser designator to assist in guiding friendly missiles. Furthermore, the Recon class is now the only one with access to C4, making them crucial for destroying ground vehicles like tanks.

These adjustments, which in certain instances restore the classes to their foundational roles, follow the release of Battlefield 2042 in 2021. Battlefield 2042 notably altered the class system by introducing “specialists” – hero-like characters with distinct capabilities. This shift led to a relaxation of previously stringent class design rules, allowing classes to utilize a broader range of weapons and gadgets. Consequently, this unintentionally diminished the emphasis on squad-based teamwork, a hallmark feature that the traditional class system had always fostered.

While Battlefield 6 will maintain a degree of flexibility in loadouts, allowing some weapon sharing between classes, each class will now possess a unique proficiency with their signature weapon types. This proficiency will unlock powerful, game-altering traits when used effectively.

Enthusiastic players won`t have to wait long to experience Battlefield 6 and its refined class system firsthand. An open beta is scheduled for multiple weekends in August, with the full game launching on October 10 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
