Battlefield 2042, despite its initially rocky reception, has recently experienced a significant resurgence in player numbers. This renewed interest is directly linked to anticipation for the upcoming Battlefield 6.
SteamDB data reveals that Battlefield 2042 hit a peak of approximately 75,000 concurrent players on August 24, marking its highest count since 2023. This figure approaches its all-time peak of 107,376 players, achieved in October 2023, and its launch peak of around 105,000 players in 2021.
The primary catalyst for this latest player surge is the “Road to Battlefield 6” update. This update introduced a reimagined version of the popular Iwo Jima map and offers numerous rewards that players can redeem in Battlefield 6. This promotional event is active until October 7, giving players ample time to unlock all available items.
Battlefield 2042 faced a difficult launch in 2021, plagued by various technical issues and player dissatisfaction, including the absence of a single-player campaign. However, EA has consistently worked to improve the game through steady updates and multiple seasonal content additions.
Currently, Battlefield 2042 is available at steep discounts across various platforms. It costs just $3 on Steam and under $5 on Xbox. PlayStation players can access it via PlayStation Plus Extra, and it`s also part of EA Play, which is included with Game Pass Ultimate.
The highly anticipated Battlefield 6 is set to launch on October 10 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Initial impressions from the recent open beta have been largely positive. The game will feature a campaign drawing inspiration from the film “Civil War” and the TV series “Lioness,” with a battle royale mode planned for a later release.
