When the character lineup for Tony Hawk`s Pro Skater 3 + 4 was initially revealed, one prominent figure was noticeably absent: Bam Margera. As one of the most recognized skaters of that era who featured in numerous past Tony Hawk titles, he was the sole individual from the original THPS 3 roster not included in the remake at first.
However, Margera was ultimately added to the game just before release. In a recent interview with VGC, Margera disclosed that an unplanned meeting with Tony Hawk in Los Angeles was the key factor behind his inclusion.
Margera explained that he was in LA during a period where he hadn`t communicated with Hawk for roughly a year, at a time when Margera admitted he “wasn’t doing too good.” After receiving a phone call and an invitation to Hawk`s private skate park, the Hawk`s Nest, Margera noted that Hawk was impressed by the positive progress he had made.
Recounting the meeting, Margera stated, “I grabbed my skateboard, put on some knee pads, and we ended up ollieing over each other on the big channel.” He quoted Hawk`s reaction as, “What is going on? You are back.” Margera shared that he recently married a stretch coach whose support has significantly improved his physical well-being, enabling him to return to skateboarding regularly.
“He was quite amazed by that,” Margera commented. “And I think that… really spurred him to call Activision, knowing the deadline was tight, but to see what connections he could use to get me back in. All because of that brief, significant visit.”
Bam Margera joins a diverse roster in Tony Hawk`s Pro Skater 3 + 4, featuring both new talent and established icons such as Zion Wright, Margie Didal, Bob Burnquist, and Tony Hawk himself. The game also includes special playable guest characters like the Doom Slayer from id Software`s first-person shooter Doom and Michelangelo from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Tony Hawk`s Pro Skater 3 + 4 is currently available across multiple platforms, including Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
