Baldur’s Gate 3 Actors Audition for Other Characters

The stellar ensemble cast of Baldur`s Gate 3 has earned widespread acclaim since its launch, with notable performances such as Neil Newbon`s award-winning portrayal of Astarion and Tim Downie (known for Paddington) as Gale. This article explores a creative concept: what if these talented actors were to audition for different roles within the game?

Tim Downie, for instance, humorously tackled the role of Lae`zel, delivering lines like,

“I smell their blood on you, still! I smell your sweat!”

Considering Gale`s polite nature and his identity as a `cat dad,` it`s amusingly difficult to picture him embodying Lae`zel`s fierce bloodlust and assertive personality. Nevertheless, the idea of an entire game featuring this unexpected character swap is quite intriguing!

In another segment, Neil Newbon`s Astarion took on the character of Shadowheart, with Jennifer English playfully encouraging him to kneel. Astarion appeared less than thrilled with the situation, declaring,

“I am auditioning for the role of Shadowheart, under no duress … of my own free … free will,”

all while glancing nervously at English.

One of the most entertaining auditions featured Theo Solomon, the actor behind Wyll, stepping into the shoes of Minsc. He comically recounted,

“No, Boo! The druid did not beat Minsc at arm wrestling! It is not fair match! And he turned into an Owlbear midway through, and there was grease on the tree stump!”

For those unfamiliar, Boo is Minsc`s loyal companion, his “miniature giant space hamster,” who is, of course, absolutely not just a regular hamster replaced every few years.

Jennifer English`s interpretation of Astarion, including his now-famous “full concentrated power of the sun” line—which some speculate might be a nod to Megamind—was a particular highlight. It`s worth noting that Shadowheart, not being a vampire, would face significantly fewer solar-related threats, suggesting her portrayal of Astarion could make certain in-game challenges a bit easier!

Baldur`s Gate 3 was recognized as GameSpot`s Game of the Year for 2023. Although Larian Studios has confirmed they will not be developing a sequel, IP owner Hasbro reportedly has significant plans for future Dungeons & Dragons titles.
