Astro Bot Just Received Five Free Levels And Some Long-Awaited Cameos

A new free update has just been released for the critically acclaimed platformer, Astro Bot, developed by Team Asobi. The update introduces five additional levels and brings new character cameos into the game.

First announced during Sony`s June 2025 State of Play event, the update adds a brand new galaxy for players to explore, named the Vicious Void. While four of the new levels are titled Twin-Frog Trouble, Suck It Up, Handhold Havoc, and High Inflation, Team Asobi has decided to keep the name of the fifth level a secret for players to discover. With these additions, Astro Bot now boasts a total of over 90 levels.

In a blog post, the developers teased that completing the new galaxy “might lead to something really cool,” encouraging players to jump in and find out what hidden surprises await them.

As is tradition with Astro Bot updates, new Special Bot cameo appearances are included. Among those players can now find is the protagonist from Sucker Punch`s upcoming game, Ghost of Yotei, which was also featured in a recent State of Play presentation.

Other notable cameos players have discovered include Cloud and Sephiroth from Square-Enix`s Final Fantasy 7. Players will be delighted to find that Cloud can even perform his signature Omnislash move when prompted. Fan-favorite character 2B from NieR: Automata can also now be found within the game. The inclusion of these characters is particularly welcomed by fans who had previously noted the absence of Square-Enix, and specifically Final Fantasy, characters at the game`s launch.

Beyond the new levels, Sony also revealed a new limited-edition Astro Bot themed DualSense controller as part of the June State of Play announcements. This controller features a slightly different facial expression compared to a previous Astro Bot themed controller. While it`s not yet available for pre-order, Sony stated it is set to launch later this year and promised more details would be shared soon.

This latest update follows a previous patch released in February, which added support for PlayStation 5 Pro enhancements and introduced more challenging levels. Astro Bot has received widespread critical acclaim since its release, winning numerous Game of the Year awards, including accolades at The Game Awards 2024 and the 2025 BAFTA Awards, and was recognized by outlets like GameSpot as one of the top games of 2024.
