Ark 2 Pushed Back to 2028, Giving It a Comfortable Gap from GTA 6

The highly anticipated dinosaur-taming sequel, Ark 2, has received another substantial delay, pushing its projected release date to a distant and unspecified point in 2028. Developer Studio Wildcard initially announced the survival soulslike title back in 2020, but the project has faced multiple setbacks.

The newly established 2028 release window was confirmed by publisher Snail Games during its recent Investor Day event. During the presentation, the studio also offered fans a glimpse of the updated in-game model for the character Bob, famously voiced by actor Karl Urban (known for The Boys).

Development Focus Shifts to Ark: Survival Ascended

Studio co-founder Jeremy Stieglitz detailed a two-year roadmap for the current generation remake, Ark: Survival Ascended. This timeline will conclude with the launch of the “Legacy of Santiago” expansion, which is specifically designed to introduce several key gameplay mechanics that will ultimately be featured in the sequel, Ark 2.

The publisher also highlighted the commercial success of the franchise`s current iteration, confirming that 4 million copies of Ark: Survival Ascended have been sold across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S platforms since its debut two years ago.

Vin Diesel`s Ongoing Involvement and Franchise Expansion

Despite its initial 2023 target, which was then delayed to 2024, the development of Ark 2 has remained largely quiet until this latest announcement. The project famously involves actor Vin Diesel, who not only stars in the game but also holds the unique title of `president of creative convergence` at Studio Wildcard, aiding in development.

Beyond the games, the Ark universe has also been adapted into an animated series. Following its debut last year, the second part of Ark: The Animated Series is slated for release in 2026.
