Amon’s Arsenal: A Deep Dive into Borderlands 4’s New Vault Hunter

Gearbox, the developer of Borderlands 4, recently unveiled a new trailer showcasing gameplay for Amon, one of the upcoming Vault Hunters. Unlike Rafa, who relies on a Tediore exoskeleton and diverse weapons, or Vex, with her shadowy Siren powers, Amon is a versatile front-line character. He utilizes weaponized drones that can be configured for robust defense or powerful attacks.

Similar to other Vault Hunters, Amon possesses three distinct Action Skills, each customizable with Augments and Capstones. His unique characteristic, `Forgeskill,` enables additional abilities such as Molten Slam, Firewall, or Double-Edge. These secondary abilities activate when the Action Skill button is held, adapting to the currently equipped skill.

Here`s a detailed look at each of Amon`s Action Skills when held:

Molten Slam (Requires Onslaughter Action Skill)

Hold the Action Skill button to unleash a Molten Forgehammer, dealing incendiary melee damage in a wide area.

Firewall (Requires Scourge Action Skill)

Holding the Action Skill button deploys a protective Firewall. This barrier absorbs incoming enemy projectiles and boosts the damage and speed of friendly projectiles passing through it. While Scourge is active, absorbed damage also generates `Vengeance.` Additionally, nearby enemies suffer continuous incendiary damage.

Double-Edge (Requires Crucible Action Skill)

When holding the Action Skill button, Amon throws a pair of Forgeaxes. These axes inflict cryo melee damage as they pass through enemies and then return to Amon, dealing incendiary melee damage on their way back.

Tapping the Action Skill button triggers different effects based on Amon`s active ability:

Onslaughter (Calamity skill tree)

Tapping the button overloads Amon`s Forgefist, granting continuous shield regeneration, bonus incendiary gun damage, and improved movement speed. This also unleashes a rocket-powered punch, dealing incendiary melee damage in a short-range cone and staggering non-boss enemies on impact.

Scourge (Vengeance skill tree)

Tapping activates a Forgeshield that converts all frontal damage into `Vengeance.` A full Vengeance Meter reduces incoming damage. Vengeance depletes quickly if not actively gained. Tapping the Action Skill button again launches a Forgewave, dealing cryo ordnance damage to enemies and consuming Vengeance for increased power.

Crucible (Cybernetics skill tree)

This ability has three charges. Tapping allows Amon to ready Forge-axes that can be thrown and then retrieved from the ground to reduce their cooldown. Amon can throw either a Flame Axe (incendiary melee damage) or a Frost Axe (cryo damage). Enemies hit by Forge-axes become `primed,` detonating upon death or further damage from a Forge-Skill, harming nearby foes.

Borderlands 4 is set to release on September 12 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. A Nintendo Switch 2 version will follow on October 3, with Gearbox targeting approximately 30 frames per second and support for the Joy-Con 2 controller`s mouse mode.
